- Drives the technical architecture, the Marketing Plan, the Program Plan and the Operations Plan.
- Frames the scope of work for much of the IPTV initiative.
- Provides a common reference point for a diverse set of business, technical, and operations stakeholders.
- Ensuring that the service description addresses the service holistically, not just a service feature set. It must articulate support levels, the fulfillment experience, the billing experience, etc.
- Ensure other key deliverables all map back to the service experience. A series of deliverables will flow from the service description; business requirements, operations readiness assessment, operations implementation plan, acceptance test plan.
- Formal change management. There will be hundreds of changes to the plan, and they all must be kept in sync. Program planning and Program management have a role here, and must be grounded to the service description.
