Gerry Pond - Biography

As Chairman of Mariner, Gerry brings over 40 years of in-depth experience in the information and communications technology industry and is the driving force behind the formation of Mariner. Having been the President of Aliant Telecom and CEO of NBTel during a period of significant deregulation in the Canadian industry, Gerry continues to demonstrate his ability to successfully restructure companies, while delivering revenue growth and strong operating results. Gerry has also proven to be an innovator with such start-up IT companies as Q1 Labs, iMagicTV, and Brovada Technologies

In addition to a wealth of knowledge regarding partnerships with government for the purpose of using infrastructure as an economic development tool, Gerry continues to prove himself as an experienced leader in change management, labour relations, complex post-merger integration, and strategic partnerships.

National Recognition and Awards:
Gerry has been recognized both nationally and regionally, including the prestigious 1997 Canadian Information Productivity Association (CIPA) Innovator of the Year and Hall of Fame, Knowledge Industry Person of the Year 2002, the 2003 Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal, the Top 50 CEO Award in Atlantic Canada in 2003 and an Honorary Doctor of Letters from The University Of New Brunswick – Saint John. Educational achievements to the credit of this former Chairman of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce (1997) include a BA from the University of New Brunswick; Organizational Effectiveness Program, Harvard University; and Senior Executive’s Program, University of Western Ontario. Gerry was also recognized as a top 50 CEO by the Atlantic Business Magazine in 2005.  Recognized for his tireless contribution to the regions economic development, Gerry was inducted into the New Brunswick Business Hall of Fame in October, 2007.
